Welcome!

The Multnomah County ARES group consists of federally licensed amateur radio operators who are trained in emergency communications and have a strong desire to serve our community whenever the need arises. Hams from throughout the county, who have an interest in community service and emergency communications, are strongly encouraged to get involved. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a field organization of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

We invite all interested parties to attend our monthly meetings and check into our regular nets. A complete list of drills, training workshops, volunteer opportunities, and other events can be found on our calendar; the next two months of scheduled activity are listed below.

  • Delta Team Field Exercise and HF Operating Extravaganza

    Saturday, 02 December 2017
    Pier Park, Portland - Picnic Area C

    Nate N9VCU, EC and team leader for the Delta Team, will be setting up a field station in Pier Park Picnic Area C, and operating HF digital and voice. Operating will start at 13:00 and will continue while propagation conditions are good. All Delta Team members are encouraged to attend. Other MCARES members are also invited.

  • Workshop: PRRO Certification

    Saturday, 02 December 2017 @ 13:00 - 17:00
    St. Johns, Portland

    The PRRO Certification workshop will provide an overview of the Winlink system and will go into detail on configuring Winlink Express, sending and receiving messages, and using templates. Plenty of time will be provided for hands-on practice, and operators who feel ready will have an opportunity to complete their check sheet and earn their Packet RMS Radio Operator (PRRO) certification.
